Centenary Lookback Series No 6 - Styx

As part of the celebrations to mark the centenary of C A Duquemin Ltd, we are carrying out a monthly Facebook lookback over the last 100 years.

The firm constructed St Peters Church Hall now Styx) in 1954. In the photograph below the Dean of Guernsey Reverend L G Frossard (father of Sir Charles Frossard and Island Bailiff from 1982 – 1992) lays the foundation stone. Site foreman Fred Leonnard (dressed in his suit and tie) assists on the right of the reverend and Stan Butt is to the left. The foundation stone can still be seen today as the photo below shows.

Another photo from the construction shows that health and safety was not such a big consideration in those days.
