Centenary Lookback Series No 2 - The War Memorial

As part of the celebrations to mark the centenary of C A Duquemin Ltd, we will be carrying out a monthly Facebook lookback over the last 100 years.


Having set up his building business in 1924, master mason Alfred Duquemin was awarded the contract to construct the Island War Memorial at the top of Smith St, St Peter Port. The foundation stone was laid on 7th September 1925 and the grand unveiling ceremony took place a year later on 19 September 1926. The total cost to build the memorial including architect’s fees was £2239, 9 shillings and six pence. See below.
